SOOOO as expected, I fell off on updating my blog. I have so many pictures to sift through and so many stories to tell about my time am Bodensee, but I fear that that will have to wait if I am to keep any of you abreast of what I am doing now-a-days. So lets get to it…

At the end of September I ended the language training phase of the program and moved from Radolfzell to a suburb of Munich named Starnberg (I was able to get a little more Oktoberfest in as the last weekend was 10/1-3). This transition was smooth in principle, but it was kind of tough not seeing the friends I had just made every day at the language school. But it’s easier to cope when you’re busy, and I am here. My host family is just a host dad, but he is really friendly and energetic; he is a doctor in a nearby Dorf {small town}.  The house is spacious and has a large garden in the back. My room is in the basement, which I like because I don’t feel like I have to tiptoe around. Luke saw it over skype and said that the lighting looks like a starship bridge – pics coming soon. The city of Starnberg is an upper class suburb whose name, when dropped, illicits “oooh, fancy” from Germans.. to me it translates to more expensive groceries, fewer bars, and effective quiet hours. And at 40 minutes from Muc on a train that runs about every 30 minutes, I find myself checking the S-bahn times often.

As for my University phase, classes start on the 17th. I was enrolled in the Advanced Materials Science program, which would be pretty great if I cared about Matsci anymore… I have a meeting later this morning to determine my student status, and hopefully I will be able to register for classes more interesting to me – German, business (administration, consulting, finance,…) and possibly a French class (I hope to spend Christmas in Paris with Caly and Magali).

I have not become acclimated to Munich yet, it’s not an easy city to just connect to. It is clean, and very safe (and thus restrictive), and has a country-wide reputation of being stuck up. I am going to a get-together tonight of Münchner couch surfers from the site couchsurfing.org (look into this as an option for lodging if you are trying to travel anywhere), hoping to meet some neat people ’cause I need to make some friends ASAP.

That’s about all for now. so geht es.
